Most Importantly — a recital
Chaski, along with soprano Maureen Broy Papovich and pianist Jeanne Dayton Sasaki, presents Most Importantly, a recital of music that explores the things that really matter. Love, in all of its messiness, is the focus; but food is a recurring theme.
We’ll have harp solos inspired by Chocolate Mousse and Crêpes. You’ll hear a mother and daughter quarreling, in song, over love. And you can join us for a Bulgarian folk song featuring a frog, a mouse, and a camel, in the kitchen, singing about love.
The recital’s centerpiece is the premiere of the song cycle Most Importantly, Loves. (2021; Adrienne Inglis) The text is a series of short letters Ms. Papovich wrote as gifts of love and affirmation for her beloved younger relatives. They are mementos of family life: tender, celebratory, funny, heartbreaking.
The performance is Sunday, October 2, 3:00 PM, at Westminster Presbyterian Church (3208 Exposition Blvd, Austin, Texas). There is no charge for admission, but we welcome your donations. View the program here.
Join us afterwards in the library for conversation and refreshments.
